Mint Dreams in Trinity, FL

During  a visit to Lowe’s yesterday for some storm-related items (just in case- batteries, extra paper towels, rope to tie a young tree down). Of course (me, being me) , I had to go look in the flower and plant department and lookie what I found.

Mint Orchid

By now, I’m used to seeing the blue orchids because they have been around for about a year; but a mint green one, and you can just see a purple one peeking out underneath the blue one. I was more impressed with the green one, I think. Because of the lighting in Lowe's, these look all green but are only green on the edges and white in the center of the petals. They remind me of my green and white African Violets.

Hi Toni.  The flowers must be artifically colored.  Phaleanopsis come in white, pink, and speckled, and more in shades of pastel than vibrant.  Hybridizers would love to come up with a black orchid -- but if you see one of those, it's been colored, too.

According to Alexandra; these are not colored but bred that way. I did a post on the blue ones last year saying this same thing that you said and she told me that she bought one and it does produce blue blossoms without any dye or treatments.

Toni, sure hope you don't need the supplies for the hurricane, but you should have bought that mint green one -- it is beautiful!   Stay safe my friend!

Hi Toni,

I saw some of those in May in our Home Depot and I was thinking they must have artificially colored them so very interesting to know they breed that color as well. I guess we will be seeing them around from now on.

Very interesting colors.  We need orchids like this for St. Patrick's Day.

Enjoy the remaining days of summer with your camera in hand.

The colors now available with orchids is amazing.  Alexandra Seigel posted a picture of a magenta orchid yesterday, which was also very stunning.   But this mint green one is highly unusual.  It provides a very soothing feel!

What a beautiful orchid.  I hope you took it home for some mint dreams while trapped during the hurricane.  Be safe out there!

Toni, it's almost like they watered the soil with colored water!  They really look pretty cool.

Thanks everyone, the orchid is stunning and I think now that Isaac was a non-event for us, I will head back to Lowe's to buy one for Craig. He's our orchid collector.
