Twisted Bricks. Have You Ever Seen Anything Like This Before? I admit that I Twisted bricksdon’t know everything nor have I seen everything. But I have traveled a good bit and have seen a variety of different architectural styles and accents. Last week I saw a brick treatment that I have never seen before. Twisted bricks. Have you ever seen anything like this before?

This brick treatment was being constructed on the front of a commercial shopping center in Canton, Ohio. It caught my eye immediately and I had to go for a close up view to see how it was being done. The columns had a core of concrete blocks. The twisted brick technique was applied around the columns.

The twisted arches however had no inner core and were being installed in a wooden mold in the twist pattern. When the bricks and mortar had set, the molds were removed and the twisted pattern was revealed. It was mesmerizing to see and a very unique and interesting effect.

Twisted brick arches

I wonder if the brick masons on this job have to be just a little twisted themselves to do this kind of work. Regardless, they are quite talented and seem to know what they are doing. Wouldn't this be stunning on the front portico of a custom home?

Never seen anything like it before Debbie, and it's in Canton, Ohio, not far from me at all.

I came from Barbara's reblog. Very interesting efect, and sort of weird, especially horisontal ones. Not sure i would trust them to stand under, though (LOL)

Donna, They are a real interesting look. I am amazed that it can even be done like that.

Pam, I actually took the photos for at my husband's insistance to show my son-in-law who is a home builder. Then I couldn't resist sharing.

Roger, Yes you are right, this is close to you. I thought maybe it was an Ohio thing.

Barbara-Jo, Nobody yet has seen this before. Maybe it is a new technique.

Jon, It must be built on the same principle as bridge spans. There is some physics going on here. I would love to see the building when it is finished.

Hi Debbie.  Very cool!  I wonder if the masonry guys have to be especially clever and precise, or if it's like sewing and they just follow the pattern.

Joni, Those arches really baffle me. How do they stay up?

Clancy and Clint Higgins were the masons on these arches and columns.  They both have been masons for over 25 years.  The building is a reception hall.  If you get a chance to get to Canton, Ohio the columns between the arches are complete now.  Thank you for all the nice comments.
