A beautiful and appealing entryway to your home creates a positive first impression for your visitors. Whether you are having a party or someone is just stopping by to pick up the kids for a playdate, visitors really do notice your entryway. The front door, porch, driveway, etc. give folks a glimpse into the type of people living inside the home. Now that the kids are back in school and the temperature is starting to drop why not spruce up your entry this weekend? We here at The Jimmy Welch Team see homes for sale in Louisville and the surrounding areas each day. In some homes we can't wait to walk in to see what is inside because the entry is so appealing yet there are others we say "What are they thinking?" Here are some tips:
1) Get rid of the cobb webs and old foliage! - Let's face it, if you are like most people you enter through the garage door and don't even walk through your front door. This time of year it is amazing how quickly the spider webs can accumulate. Grab an old broom and sweep them away (it's good exercise too).
2) Paint your front door and caulk any cracks - If you are considering selling your home in the near future you may want to choose a more neutral, popular shade like dark red or black. Want to kick things up a bit? Try Sherwin Williams' "June Day" (yellow) or "Lupine" (blue). I love their selection of colors! Don't forget to caulk those cracks . . .

3) Dress up your front door - Add some oversized address numbers to your front door. Get creative and they can be artwork and not just blah numbers. Invest in a new door knob and lock. They are not that expensive and can really improve the look of your front door. Keep up the good work and hang an autumn wreath. Check out Dee's Crafts on Shelbyville Road. They have some of the most beautiful items for your front door. You can buy them ready-made or they offer classes where you can make your own. We especially like the decorations using burlap, yes burlap.

4) Sprinkle your front porch or entry with some colorful chrysanthemums or mums as they are better known. You can find them in a variety of colors that will compliment your entry. Yellow mums are a favorite and seem to brighten our spirits as the temperatures drop and the days get shorter. If you were more liberal on your front door color, pop some color with the planters you put the mums in. TJMaxx/Homegoods has colorful pots at reasonable prices.

Invest some time and not a lot of money into making your entryway one that you can be proud of. Remember the old saying, "You only get one chance to make a first impression". Kick back on the front porch with some iced tea and watch your neighbors do a double-take at your beautiful new entryway!
