I can install an exhaust fan,
I wish you would have given me all the facts.
I was asked to bid on installing sheetrock for a homeowner doing their own kitchen remodel. Before the start of the project, I came out took my
measurements. Some of the walls were going to change a bit but it seemed pretty straight forward. The sheetrock was going to be done in the kitchen, dining area, and laundry room; there was no need to roam around this single story home.
While driving home, I got a call from the owner asking if I could install the duct work for the microwave exhaust fan above the stove. It was a single story home and there was going to be a hole created when they were going to demolish a brick fireplace stack near the stove. Perfect! That will be no problem to install; we can do it after the plaster walls were opened up.
I got a chance to get started, and was surprised at what I saw in the attic. There was a one room directly above the stove in the kitchen. No wonder they didn’t have one before! Since I was committed to doing the work, we had to find a way to the whole in the roof. The framing needs to be reconfigured to run the duct horizontally and then up to the hole in the roof.
Not what I had expected. I assumed that there would be an unobstructed path to the roof, since it was a single story. Maybe I should have asked, but I didn’t. Perhaps they could have told me there was a room upstairs that might be in the way. It will take more time, but it will get done.
