David, Here in Maryland we get asked these questions a lot and our real estate commission is very clear about hiring practices of brokers.  If you've been convicted of a felony you may not be able to practice real estate here.  Great post.

good point, check just like you would with an atty and often our clients spend more when dealing with us than with attys!
