Recreation in Greenbrier County
My home state, West Virginia, is the 35th state and is nicknamed the "Mountain" state. I live in the Greenbrier County where you will find a collage of gentle farmlands, white water rivers and historic towns. My home is located in Lewisburg, West Virginia, a historical town named in 2011 as "the Coolest Small Town in America" by Budget Travel Magazine. Lewisburg, a quaint historic town in southern West Virginia, offers the modern conveniences of big city living with all the flavor of small town charm.
As it is throughout the Greenbrier County, the recreation opportunities abound for hiking, backpacking, fishing, hunting, mountain biking, white water rafting, kayaking, and snow skiing. There are many recreational activities in Greenbrier County.
The Monongahela National Forest, established in 1920, comprises roughly a million acres of National Forest System lands in West Virginia and lies within 400 miles of an estimated 96,000,000 people. The breathtaking vistas, peaceful country roads, gently flowing streams, and glimpses of the many species of plants and animals that inhabit the Forest. Check out all the recreational activities at the Monongahela National Forest.
Greenbrier State Forest,is located in the southeastern corner of the state near the border of Virginia, Greenbrier State Forest provides over 5,100 acres of heavily forested, mountainous terrain for outdoor recreation. Magnificent views of the surrounding countryside are afforded by the impressive and imposing 3,280 high Kate's Mountain.
The Greenbrier River Trail is a 78-mile long rail trail operated by West Virginia State Park system and is used for bicycling, hiking/walking, cross-country skiing and horseback riding. The Greenbrier River trail runs along the Greenbrier River and passes through picturesque countryside as it winds through the river valley. Zeke, our chocolate lab, loves the trail and especially when we stop for swimming and stick throwing/fetching in the Greenbrier River. Whatever activity you do on the trail you will no doubt see many species of interesting wildlife along this wonderful trail.
The Greenbrier River Trail traverses one of the most remote areas in the state and lies adjacent to the Monongahela National Forest, Seneca State Forest and Watoga State Park.
