All the World is mad except me and thee, and I'm not so sure about me
This is a (mis)quote that's been around for a while, that is usually attributed to "A Yorkshireman"
We live in stressful times. We relieve this stress (or not) in a variety of ways. My choice is to release my "alter ego" ~ O'Larry the Clown for a time.
A summer-weight version of O'Larry tends to omit the face paints as these play havoc with my skin. Winter allows more face color.
Most people are reluctant to converse with an old man in a wheel chair, but they are quite happy to tell their life story to a clown even one obviously without legs. So my disguise is quite an ice breaker even doing something as mundane as getting the groceries in Sandy UT. O'Larry has his own growing set of fans in Utah and is usually seen with his furry animals, his puppet friends (often including Kevin Koala).
O'Larry relates well to hospital patients who don't get many visitors. He tends to do things that Larry finds hard to do. He is a salesman without reticence, and never forgets to seek "quality introductions". (Who needs just "referrals"?)
My choice to indulge in the unexpected was the result getting over my normal shy and retiring nature. I noticed quickly that others benefited as well. A break or respite from the real, a chance to indulge in fantasy.
Levity is great for stress relief.
The more sober of you might ask, as my mother did often, when I intend growing up?
I hope never.
