Morning has Broken!
The sunrise this morning reminded me of one of my favorite Cat Stevens songs - Morning has Broken. It seems as if the lyrics are perfect for this last day of August 2012. Did you know that the song is actually a popular children's hymn that was first published in 1931? It's author, an Englishwoman by the name of Elenor Farjeon set the words to a Gaelic tune called "Bunessan."
Morning has broken, like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning
Praise for them springing fresh from the Word.
Sweet the rain's new fall, sunlit from heaven
Like the first dewfall, on the first grass
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden
Sprung in completeness where His feet pass.
Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning
Born of the one light, Eden saw play
Praise with elation, praise every morning
God's recreation of the new day.
For those of you who want to hear the song, here's Cat in the old days - 1976 to be exact. Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning. Morning has Broken!
