What To Do About Mold in your Nanaimo home

Whether you looking to sell a house or buy a house in Nanaimo, one of the things that you’ll want to keep an eye out for is mold.

This may sound clichéd, but one of the easiest ways to deal with mold is to prevent it before it even starts or begins to spread too far.

sell a house in NanaimoHere are a couple of things that can cause mold inside your home and what you can do to keep the mold from getting out of hand.

1.  Poorly ventilated bathrooms.

Older homes especially may not have an exhaust fan or a window to open in the bathroom.  If you have a bathroom like this and you’re not careful to keep in ventilated, you’ll find mold start to grow in the tub and shower enclosure and in the ceiling corners.

2.  Plumbing leaks.

Over a period of time the shut-off valves for your plumbing fixtures may begin to slowly leak.  Because these are usually hidden inside a lower cabinet you may never notice this slow drip.  A helpful tip is to schedule in your calendar a twice-yearly reminder to take a look under your sinks to make sure that you don’t have a slow drip that can cause mold.

Remember that mold occurs in nature, so in and of itself mold isn’t a bad thing.  But you certainly don’t want it inside your house.

If you’re going to sell a home or buy a home in Nanaimo, scheduling a professional mold inspection can be a wise thing to do.
