The story of Greenwich Presbyterian in Nokesville began with the birth of Aminta Elizabeth Douglass who was born April 1, 1777 in Maryland.
In April, 1802 she married Gilbert Irland Moxley and moved to Greenwich, VA. Shortly after her arrival she began holding religious services in her home. They were so popular a small log building was built to serve as a place of worship. Records indicate that an 1810 meeting was the basis for the founding of Greenwich Presbyterian Church. By 1812 it was necessary to replace the original log cabin with a larger one.
As both the congregation and area grew it became necessary to build a larger church. The present brick church was completed in 1858. Mrs. Moxley lived to see the new church completed before she passed away on December 31, 1858. Fittingly, hers was the first grave in the new church graveyard.
