There are shortcuts to every job

When it comes to home repairs, there are many shortcuts that can be taken by the home owner or contractor. Most of the shortcuts can save a few dollars and a little bit of time. We have to ask ourselves, “Is the shortcut worth it?”

By trimming the bottoms of these two trim boards, the owners saved about $5 in material costs.

What do you think of the results? Even with a good coat of paint the repairs would stick out as a bad repair choice.

Sometimes the shortcut just isn’t worth it!

I see this all the time and it drives me crazy....or the homeowner who did every project about 95% of the way and didn't actually finish anything!   arrrgghhh

I so agree, often, what seems like a less expensive route to take, actually will cost someone far more in the end!

Honesty, Integrity, Results, Experienced. HIRE Me!

Good morning Tom -

I happen to like the old saying, " If you're going to do something, might as well do it right."  One of my pet peeves but seems like we see a lot of short cuts in today's world.

Have a great Saturday my friend.

It would proably look better before the repair.  That is why we ask on repair requests that they be performed by qulified technician (not homeowner).

Great photograph to illustrate a great point. Don't do it if you're not going to do it well.

Deborah - That last 5% is so important. Attention to the details can be the difference between an improvement and an eye sore. It is frustrating sometimes.

Kathy - This is especially true if the home is for sale. The home needs to luck its best.

I like that old saying John. I'm not perfect but that is the target - do it right.

Edward & Celia - I don't know what it looked like before the repairs, so I can't say. Having the work done by qualified contractors makes sense, they are held to a different standard.
