When Can I Start Really SPEAKING To My Wife & Kids Again?

At 67 and never having purchased my first cell phone until I was 50, emailing when I was 55 and texting whence I hit 60+ I can tell you first hand how frustrating it is to have to communicate with your own family by hitting a bunch of leters and commands on a keyboard that my fingers are to big for and I can't even see.

Plus I love hearing my children and grandchildren's lovely cute little voices instead of receiving a bunch of .6 point word groupings. Sad thing? My kids only use text. My wife says it's the only way young folks communicate today. I said OK honey as long and I can continue to hear your lovely voice I guess I'll be fine with that. That was on June 1, 2012

I PHONE TEXT

To date I've recieved no less than 256 texts and 300 emails from my lovely bride of 37 years this month. The emailtext boogie man finally captured her to. Will any of us escape this scourge? Or will we all just become a population of fleshiy organizms whose only mode of communication is CLICK CLICK CLICK VOOOOSH!

Now here I sit preaching to choir with Mac Pro and I Phone in hand taking pictures of them for this post. LOL!! I'M LONG AN APPL But When Can I Start Really SPEAKING To My Wife & Kids Again?

This is very true John. These days it's almost like I have to plan to spend time together, it rarely happens that we are together by accident, so the bulk of our communication is by texting.

I'm sitting here LOL but quite frankly, it really isn't funny is it John. I too like the sound of a loving voice rather than a message...............who knew it would come to this? Technology, can't live with it, can't live without it.

It has gotten crazy. I agree....we just don't talk anymore. My parents were visiting and after dinner we were all sitting in the living room. Dad was doing a Sudoku puzzle, mom was playing Bingo on her tablet, hubby was on his phone checking emails, and I had my laptop commenting on ActiveRain. Not exactly quality family time!

Yikes! I just went back on this post and realized you folks left comments. One of my pet peeves is not acknowledge those who take the time to read a post and leave a well thought out comment.

Malcom: LOL! I've actually threatened to not communicate with my kids via electronic gadgetry. I love hearing their perky little voices.

Roger, you're soooooo spot on. Even when the voice isn't always so loving, sometimes distressed, oftern impatient usually excited. It doesn't matter. It's still nice to hear the real deal.

Sharon, LOL! That's pretty funny. But it really sums it up doesn't it? Janis, bless her busy little heart couldn't survive without her IPhone and texting. But thank God for that. It brings home lot's of bacon. 90% of her texting and email revolve around biz. The balance revolves around our children and once in awhile even MOI!

Debbie, actually my I'm all thumbs and my fingers are much too big for the tiny little IPhone keyboard so I get very frustrated and usually end up just phoning. I don't always get a direct answer but instead a voice mail. However, it's still nice to hear those precious little voices.

But I will have to say, I am part of the younger generation that likes technology AND I'm somewhat of an introvert in a business that is a very people person business, so I happen to like email and text communications quite a bit, I must admit...-Kasey
