Admittedly this isn't the best shot of Cape Lookout Lighthouse but will share since it IS the PRETTIEST lighthouse I know of.. ok, yes, opinionated !

I grew up in Jupiter Florida with what I considered a beautiful lighthouse-- all red with a black top and situated along Jupiter inlet with a beacon shining on the jetty. When I moved to Carteret County NC I had to take the short trip "Down East" to Harkers Island to visit the Core Sound Museum and of course get a good shot of the lighthouse. She was pretty ! Later that summer I took a closer look by boat- NC Cape Lookout Seashore - and found the diamond shaped pattern to be my favorite of lighthouses!! 20 yrs later, any chance I get to see the Cape and her lighthouse--count me in !

Rich with history and protected by local and federal funding the lighthouse offers scheduled tours and is one sight you really shoud put on your list if you are visiting Carteret County NC by roadway ..

or even better by boat !

I like the photo a lot, Michele-- you caught the movement of the waves- the bird--I could almost feel the salty air...but I need to know what makes THAT lighthouse the fairest of them all... your friend in the mountains...

White diamonds- they point East/ West

Black diamonds- they point North/South

I think anything with diamonds is "beautiful" janeAnne !!! What impressed me about her is that the uniqueness that it is only accessible by boat- sits on its own little island. In 2003 the National Parks Service aquired the care for her and has done a great job with preservation and renovation. These coastal lighthouses are mystical keepers of the sea.
