Take A Hike Around Discovery Lake & Discovery Creek, In San Marcos, California.
Discovery Creek and Discovery Lake Trails in San Marcos, California can be combined for a fairly easy 3-mile loop hike with very pleasant views. Even though they're in an urban area included as part of the Discovery Hills housing neighborhood these trails offer natural scenes along the way. They both are multiuser trails open to hikers, bikers, equestrians and dogs on leashes and both feature soft surface and hard surface paths, that are often side by side.
You'll notice trails on either side of the creek--soft surface trail on its south side and the hard surface one on its north. Several trails connect here giving lots of options, including the trail to Double Peak a 5 mile round trip from Discovery Lake with a 1,000 foot elevation gain as well as the 3 mile round trip Cima Trail that intersects along Discovery Creek. Just after the Discovery Creek trail crosses Applewilde Drive, it splits with one segment heading across the creek and another continuing toward the hills.
