Had a lot of banter last week as the Packers whalloped the Seahawks despite the terrible start in Green Bay. The buzz this week is the dirty play of the Giants, the inconsistency of Eli....before the playoffs and the consistency of him during the playoffs, and of course, the legend of Brett and the weather....ooooh the weather.
No surprise here that Favre has had his day and his days are numbered, but this year seems magical in an Elway-esque sort of way. I'm excited to see what this game brings. In my heart of hearts, I think that this will be a hard fought toe to toe game, but I think that (in my heart) the Packers are going to the super bowl.
What makes this game so intriguing is that it may be very similar to the Ice Bowl of 1967. The temperature at game time....was -13 degress F. http://www.profootballhof.com/history/decades/1960s/ice_bowl.jsp. That, my friend is out of control. This Sunday it will be a veritable heatwave at a balmy 5 degrees above zero. Windchill, of course will make it down below -5 or 10, but we'll have to wait to gametime to see.
My 70 year old dad and 69 year old mother are so excited that they picked up a pair of tickets on the 50 yard line 5 rows up. Dad may be drinking a few Bloody Marys and mom may look for shelter inside having a hot chocolate or two if the wind chill gets too out of control. Somehow, I really feel that by my mom watching Brett so close to the field that she'll be able to keep warm inside. Dad will have a little extra Tabasco to keep him warm until the final seconds tick down and they start looking for their super bowl tickets.
