Everyone has heard that quote, “Your eyes are the windows to your soul.” Using that logic, your home’s entry door is the passage to your heart. Entry doors are a major component of curb appeal and ideally they should make a big statement that exhibits cohesive character with the style of your home. When selecting a front door you have to consider not only the look, but also energy efficiency and maintenance.
Entry doors are made from steel, fiberglass, or wood and each has their own strengths and weaknesses.
Steel –Is the most cost effective option, and offers more insulation that a traditional wood door. But, you might have to sacrifice some style options if you opt for a steel door.
Fiberglass – Offers many style options, including a wood grain texture that can be stained. Home builders Tampa Florida favor this choice since it does a good job of blocking out humidity and heat, yet can also offer a stylish door that doesn’t require the maintenance of its’ wood counterpart.
Wood – The bottom line is that it costs more, requires maintenance, and is not as energy efficient. BUT, it is wood…and it is beautiful (as long as you maintain it)!
In addition to selecting the material that the door will be made of, you also have to consider panel design, stained vs. painted, and the option of glass panels.
Your front door says a lot about your home. It welcomes family and guests, as well as provides style to your home’s exterior. Building a custom home allows you to select the material, color, style and design of your door, so that you can make an excellent entrance.
