As we're nearing the final stretch of 2012, the mentions and conversations begin about building businesses for the coming year. I'm no exception and as such realize that "Each and everyday, someone, somewhere in my city needs my services. My job TODAY is to find that person". (Taken from the Seven Levels of Communication by Michael Maher ) Which, if you have not read it, is a fascinating books that reminded me that mega businesses can be built on relationships, not spending go-gobs of money on advertising.
*If you have read it, please feel free to leave a comment on your thoughts of the book.
Anyway, after reading the book a few times (really it's a quick read), I will be executing the following three activities to increasingly build my business within the next 90 days....
1. Send 2013 calendar to my sphere. All individuals in my database will receive a calendar for next year. I like it because it has a long shelf life and I really get a kick out of it when I visit a past client, business partner and I see the current year's calendar on their refrigerator or filing cabinet.
2. November community involvement project out reach. Last year. I created my own community project where I collected winter coats, hats and mittens for children and donated them to a local clothes bank. I partnered with a business partner that owns a dry cleaning company and they dry cleaned all the coats that were donated. Over a two week period I collected over 100 coats, hats and mittens/gloves for kids who would otherwise have to suffer a Connecticut winter without one. I did a postcard mailing to my soi and it was a great way for everyone to contribute, catch-up and feel good about helping the community we serve. I'll do that again in November.
3. Client Appreciation - Will host a gathering for my clients and those who have referred clients to me and my team. A nice dinner with just a few words of thank you, introduction of the team they may have spoken to but never met and a really quick overview of the current real estate market is the agenda. Other than that, it's just about getting together face to face in a relaxed setting.
Well that's it. Time to get to planning and ordering calendars, give-aways and postcards........
BTW - remember if you've read the 7 Levels of Communication, please let me know how you enjoyed it and if it's helped build your business.
Cheers!
