Aging in PALACE is now UP at Kindle. (eReader-30pps,5,500 words)
The notion that age-friendly homes are unattractive is a misconception.
The term, “aging-in-place” may (unintentionally) carry a negative connotation, at least in the view of responders to a poll taken by researchers at The Sage Companion eZine, a not-for-profit publication where some readers expressed concern that accessible homes were “ugly” and not desirable.
One even wrote to say it brought to mind “a really-really-really bad-smelling hunk of molding cheese set aside in the pantry and forgotten.” Oh Dear! That is not a pleasant image! I wouldn’t want that to happen to me, would you? What’s a mother to do?
Let’s talk about choices.
It feels to me that this does involve information-gathering, planning, deciding to live comfortably in a “feathered nest” - a home that can work over a lifespan that is both functional and beautiful.
That would be like Aging-in—a-P A L A C E©! And that option is available. Today’s consumers are sensitive to subtle elegance and beautiful décor. Older adults have tremendous buying power today, and more often than not choose to avoid “retirement homes” preferring to age-at-home.
What part do REALTORS® and related professionals play in this process? We can let people know their choices. .. inspire older adults and members of the “Greatest”(1914-1929) “Lucky Few” (1929-1945) and Baby Boomer (1946- 1964) generations and their families
to plan ahead, and to help each of us to live in a home of our CHOICE that is designed not only for functionality, but for comfort and beauty. ... “aging-in-place” -or as I call it- “Aging-in-P A L A C E©.”
