Getting Started In Real Estate – Let Your Business Fund Your Dreams!

A Life By Design, Not by Default!  Like many people I got into real estate to be my own boss.  I was commuting over 100

LIVE YOUR DREAMSmiles a day to work from Lancaster CA to Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank.  Added to my commuter misery was the fact that I suffer from carsickness.  Everyday when I arrived at work I was dizzy, nautious and extremly grouchy.  Home life wasn't much better.  I left for work at 6:30 in the morning and didn't arrive back home until 7:30 at night.  After 5 years of that life I was over it.

Ask and the universe will answer.I believe that when you really desire a change the universe answers.  I was at the peek of my frustration about work when I remembered a conversation I had with my Realtor when we were buying our first house.  As we were riding around in his very nice Lincoln towncar I questioned him extensively about what it was like to be a Realtor.  He said he loved it!  He loved meeting new people everyday, making his own schedule and most importantly after working many years in 9-5 jobs he'd finally found a profession where he could embrace and not run away from his desire to be an entrapranuer.  I knew just what he meant!

Live the life you want! Once I realized that I had to live a life by design, not by default meaning I had to throw away my preconcieved notions about what my life was supposed to be and live the life that I actually desired the rest was easy.  I bought a monthly pass to ride the Metro Link train to work every day instead of driving and used the hour on the train to study for my real estate license.

Real Estate Essentials.  Getting started in real estate was no easy task and none of the practical every day struggles of a real estate agent was covered in the books so, in 2007 I co-authored a DVD and Workbook entitled, “Real Estate Essentials”, which is a practical guide for anyone thinking about transitioning into a career in real estate.

The best job ever! My real estate career has been full of peeks and valleys, but it’s the most rewarding job I have ever had.  My real estate career is also funding my dream of being a Grammy award winning songwriter and I couldn’t be happier!

Great post!  When the thought hits you to make changes in your life, you have to act.  I had a similar situation and decided I'd had enough of corporate life.  That was almost 13 years ago.  I've learned a lot, met a ton of people and hope that I've helped more than my fair share of them find their home or sell their home to avoid foreclosure or just move on.  I wouldn't change it for anything.

Nice post. I do think one of the issues we have in real estate is the hiring broker who over promises and under delivers new agents. BE HONEST WITH THEM.

@Tom  Yes, when I find myself needing motivation I think about all of the people whom I've helped save their homes or sell their homes and move on to a better life wtih less stress.  We do this to make a living but we also do it to make a difference.  I wouldn't change it either Tom!

@Judith, change the way you look at things and the things you look at change!  That is an affirmation I say quite often, so I agree, attitude is everything!

@Pat, life is not a dress rehearsal!!  We will not get to come back and give our dreams another shot.   I've made the choice to work in a profession that I love.  The cherry on top is that I get to help people realize THEIR dreams while financing my own!!  It doesn't get any better than that!

@Lela, that is a GREAT way to end a comment by saying "have the best day of your life!"  We all need to have the attitude that EVERYDAY is the best day of our lives!!!  Thank you!!
