I was cruzing around Active Rains google and came across this awesome and informative post that I thought this was a must read for our tight community of Active Rain Real Estate Professionals.

First a little background on me, I have owned every generation of the iPhone since the first models, and highly anticipated this new release, like a 5 year old on Christmas Eve, I have been uncontrollable, unable to sleep, couldn't wait for today - and as I sit here rather disappointed, felt I should reach out for some support (iPhone junkie in withdrawal)

Let me talk a little bit, about what I liked,  and didn't like.

1: Longer length, but same width? Here is where I hit the " Epic Failure " button .   Why would you make the screen an inch taller and not wider, it throws the entire 'proportion" off and the extra space is useless? Update: being tagged as the "hotdog" or "long Skinny" phone.

1a: Update: As of today, only 2 apps report being able to use the extra length on the screen, 220,000 others are not compatible - (they will work but just have black borders on the extra space)  more argument to the fact they should have made the screen proportionately larger, not just longer.

2: In defense they claim you now get 24 icons on your screen -  First let me tell you I have 25 icons on my home-screen for years, so to go backwards, doesn't make sense to me.

Note: Many of the items I refer to in here are free upgrades on a Jail-broken iPhone - Jailbreaking  your phone has been taken to the courts, and they ruled = that you own your phone, your not renting, leasing, borrowing, it - YOU OWN IT - and jailbreaking has been ruled legal and it is estimated that approximately 30 million iPhone/pads - worldwide - are jail-broken. So if you haven't jailbroken your phone yet? What are you waiting for?

Update to note: Some fears of "jailbreaking" your phone, and "crashing" were brought up in a repost and there is some validity to that remark. So I wanted to clarify a little here. Cydia (jaibreaks app store) does a wonderful job supplying new, free and pay apps to their store - fallback is - that they do not police the old apps, and some do not work with a new upgrade from apple. Minor problem, take a minute when you upgrade to make sure your favorite apps from Cydia will work with the new upgrade. Rule of thumb, when Apple does an upgrade - 9 out of 10 times, a jaibroke phone will not gain anything, more than likely your phone has the feature they are upgrading, so just ignore it. Worse case, you did the upgrade, your phone crashes, simply restore it factory settings, takes about 3 minutes, and sync - just like new!

FYI - the App Store - also still works on a Jailbroke phone - you get the best of both worlds!

3: Facetime, any time? Old news, jailbroken phones have had the feature since the conception of FACETIME - so again I hit the "fail" button, or at least - whatever - button. (I have sold 2 condos with mainland buyers, while they "facetimed" me, as I toured the property for them)

4: Faster process speeds? LTE? You had promised me that when I upgraded from my 4 to my 4s.  (not LTE)  Let me tell you something, my 4, in a real world test, outperformed my 4s more often, than not - in side by side testing.  I actually would have sold my 4s, except the camera features were hands down, far better on the 4s.  This will be a wait and see also, it certainly can use the extra speed, but you didn't deliver last year? just saying.....

5: Battery life? I am going to refer to #4 above, same claims when going to my 4s over my 4 - epic fail then, will take a wait and see on this one.

6: New connector/plug - I like the concept, then I realized, what do I do with $149.99 TomTom GPS antenna that it cradles in? Or my $459.00 Sony stereo that bought because of the cool iPhone dock built in - or what about the car stereo that actually has a tray that slides out, cradles my iPhone, and goes back into the dash and becomes a player (OK that last one is on my wish list for my boat) or the 14 charging devices I have accumulated? Maybe I have to 'pony" up for this one, it's still up for debate.

7: Maps - WINNER - about time, unfortunately I purchased the TomTom GPS antenna for my iPhone, it is actually far better than the new map feature, but was very pricey - compared to - FREE, so this gets my full, 2 thumbs up, if I ever get the new phone, I would sell my TomTom adapter on ebay.

8: Thinner/lighter: Whatever, my 4s doesn't seem heavy or fat? I will leave this one as still - open . Update: After speaking to several parents at football practice last night, all were in agreement that they actually like the weight and feel of the iPhone over the lighter, plasticity feel of a Droid or Samsung product. This one is really just personal preference.

9: Styling: Mixed here also - Love the aluminum housing - awesome machine work, looks like a winner - downside - I am going to coin a new term here - HOTDOG - the phone is too longgggg for its width - making it look like a hotdog ! So if it were more proportionate to height and width,  it would be a 2 thumbs up! For now - NO.

10: Siri - 2 comments on that - Siri is cool, when Siri works (jailbroke or not), but with the Jailbreak, Siri does FAR MORE things already. I doubt that the new version will even come close to what a jailbroke Siri can do. Will leave it open until I see it  in person.

11: Camera - 2 thumbs up, I love the camera in my 4s, new one not worth an upgrade, but if you are on an iPhone  4 or less, worth the upgrade.

12: Microphone and Speaker upgrades - looks like a great addition, thumbs up - but remember the carrierers are not set up for it, as of now, it only improves things like "voice recognition" (which is a good thing)

At the end of the day - just Jailbreak your current iPhone, and wait to see if they deliver on their promise. I tell you, there is nothing jumping out a screaming - PRE-ORDER-ME -

FYI -  Jailbreaking also offers hundreds, seriously, hundreds of upgrades/personalizing on the current iPhone, making them more, user friendly and personalized than you can ever imagine - head over to YouTube and search "Top 10 Cydia apps for 2012" and get ready to amaze yourself.  Did you know that old iPhone 3 had video capabilities, they locked it, how about the ability to change your font, a little more personal - yep they locked that to, oh ya - how about turning your phone into a wifi hotspot without monthly charges - yep they locked that too. There are so many things that even the old -  3, and 3gs were capable of , and Apple decided to lock you out - then, unlock it in segments, to keep you coming back for more.

A few of my favorite Jailbroken apps on my 4s
