It's APPLE PICKING time again and you do not have to wait until fall.

When spring arrived nearly a month early this year here in New Hampshire, it had one affect that I actually like. The Apples are ready for picking now.... Usually what seems like a forever wait until October is over.

macs apples londonderry nhSo Tuesday as it was Primary Voting day here in NH, the schools were closed and what a better time to head my favorite orchard for "Pick your own".

I loaded up my Daughter and headed to Macs Apples in Londonderry NH. What I found was amazing. Trees full of red ripened fruit as far as the eye could see. Around the corner, the Pumpkin patches were still filled with pumpkins.

What did I not see? No crowds, no lines and no traffic.

WE LOVED IT!!!

You see come this weekend there will be a steady flow of cars from every New England state as they come to enjoy the heart of Apple Growing Country, right here in Southern NH.

With so many apples to pick from we took our time and choose the reddest of the red apples from both Macintosh and the newer variety Jonnamac Trees.

What would apple picking be without eating all the apples you can while picking. They were sweet, juicy and plump. They were "oh so good."

The day would not be complete without a short drive down to Macs Farmstand. It is early so there was not any pumkins ready yet, but there were lots of mums. I went inside and picked up a couple of bags of premade Apple Crisp mix.

A couple of tips:

If you are heading to Macs. During the week there is only 1 orchard open for pick your own. Weekends all Orchards are open. I found out the hard way by driving to my favorite which was closed.

Farm Market, OPEN 9am-6pm Daily and Mack's U-Pick, 10am-5pm Daily

Their Apple hotline is  (603)432-3456

Well, what do you know, this post is actually about apples. :) I wasn't sure whether it would be when I clicked on the link, maybe that's because I've been thinking about "that other" Apple this morning and reading posts on G+ about the iPhone 5.

Nice localism post Scott.

Hi Scott - Like you, we're having a big apple harvest here as well - we keep getting bags of apples from friends with small orchards or a couple of trees. Time to make some pies!

Scott, somehow I thought this was linked to iPhone5 release....but, hey, it's really about Apples - and about Mack's farmland!

And I love early Autumn but afraid of early winter because this year's winter in New England will not be as mild as it was last year.

Scott- I'll never forget the first time I saw an apple orchard when I visited friends in Philly.  What a treat.  This sounds like one of the best ways to spend some good family time.

Making me hungry just thinking about them. I will bet they taste better than the ones waxed and stored by grocery stores, too.

So jealous! It's still summer here this week, 111 degrees when I came home. Not apple season here.
