Antique BoatVintage boats and cars will pack the grounds at the Johnson Brothers Boat Works in Point Pleasant on Saturday, Sept 15th when the Antique and Classic Boat and Car Show opens its 30th annual show.

The free public event will mark a new milestone with the opening of the Vintage Car Museum, a professional display of Model A and Model T Fords from the early 1930s. The museum in Building 13 of the boat works includes a very rare 1896 Ford Quadracycle, a Model A tow truck fully equipped, and a collection of related artifacts.

Outside the museum, an antique Stanley Steamer will puff and hiss into the show on its own hot-water power, as owners of vintage and classic cars from the early 1900s to the 1970s put on a rotating display of restored vehicles from the Vintage Automobile Club of New Jersey and the North Shore Auto Club based in Wall.

On the water, between 40 and 50 boats are expected, from a 1900 electric-powered launch with a surrey to Cigarette, a restored 72-foot commuter boat built in 1929 that evokes the Great Gatsby era of Long Island’s North Shore, when Wall Street executives went to work by private yacht.

One crossover between boat and car will be on display: a 1961 two-door Chevrolet Belair, mounted on a barge and propelled by an outboard motor. The novelty car-boat has been a surprising sight on lagoons in the northern Barnegat Bay area.

Other vessels include a 50-foot Elco yacht, a restored racing hydroplane and a classic 1957 Jersey speed skiff, a wooden forefather of the fast boats still raced on the Barnegat Bay circuit.

The show is located at 1800 Bay Ave. and admission and parking are free. The show runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., while the Vintage Car Museum closes at 4 p.m. Food and drink vendors will be there, along with exhibitors of nautical arts and crafts and marine services. The rain date is Sunday. (from the Point Pleasant Chamber of Commerice)
