Home grown vegetables www.azgrandestates.comDo you read labels/contracts?  I do and sometimes it is scary.

I just returned from a “Whole type” of grocery store.  I was looking at the fresh vegetables.  I try to by organic when possible.  I picked up a head of lettuce.  Yes, it was organic, but it was grown in Mexico!  I know what organically grown in the U.S. means, but what is the criteria for Mexico?

Read the entire label/contract and make sure it is what you want.

A lot of people equate organic to healthy.  Organic is just a way something is grown and has nothing at all to do with healthy.  I agree read the whole label and be safe.

I always read labels before I purchase anything, and I agree with Steve, organic doesn't mean healthy.  I was watching a news program, can't remember whether it was 6o Minutes or Dateline, but they were doing a segment on organic vs. non organic and studies apparently have shown that organic is not much different,  not is it healthier or safer, despite the claims and the higher price tags...

Interesting, Pamela.  I haven't thought about that.  And, as Steve and Gloria have said, the studies on going "organic" are too new to have a true test.  Besides, how long do all those pesticides people have used for years actually effect the soil?  Another unknown.  All that's known, is that the currently know harmful pesticides weren't used THIS year.

Put 40 years of experience to work for you

I generally don't read the labels because I'm at that age when the small print is just too danged tiny to read. But I wouldn't eat tomatoes grown in Mexico anyway. Hot house tomatoes. Yuck.
