All You Need is LOVE - Mel PetersonAll You Need is LOVE.  It's astonishing... you only have to flip on your TV or Internet for 5 minutes to get your fill of hatred in the world.  How did we become so uncivilized?  It's no wonder we're a society plundering into the depths of despair... with an appetite for cynism, chaos, crime and cruelty.

We spend our days defending our positions, making excuses for bad behavior, pissing in other's cheerios, pointing fingers of blame, manipulating, one-upping, crossing lines and forgetting what our grand-parents taught us so long ago... treat your neighbor as yourself.  Must we ask... Who's our neighbor?

Surely, technology has made us smarter than our ancestors, no?  We have every tool at our disposal to help us reach for success, but what is success without civility?  Too many societies are filled with hatred and disdain, ruled by ruthless leaders, while the masses follow blindly.  What shall we become?

Perhaps civility should be a required course in our schools today.  There's something to be said for the ole' Proverb... 'Train up a child in the way they should go, and they shall never depart from it.'  Teach civility and perhaps we'll aspire to reach for it.

The Beatles knew a little something about civility... they said, All You Need is LOVE

Mel~this is why I DON'T turn on the news. In their half-hearted way, they try to end on a positive note by having a "feel good" report at the end of the news, but sadly, that still doesn't do it for me.

I will not allow that to enter my realm, and that's why I loathe politics, just as an example.

On the OTHER HAND, that will not become our reality at Fishhawk Lake--laughter, tears, conversations and sightseeing (with much food and perhaps a shopping trip) will be the orders of the day in our slice of paradise!

So true Janis... 'Love is a prerequisite to happiness!'

Can't wait... Sharon!  I need a breather... and there's no better place to take one than Fishhawk Lake with the gals!  I'm stoked!

Hey GayleFriend ~ Couch or Cot... and no TV... I'm easy to please!  Any plans for dinner tomorrow?  I'd love to make you girls one of my favorite pasta dishes!  Can't wait to see my gal pals =)))

Mel- once every 4 years it seems so many throw civility out the door in the name of politics, winning, and I'm not sure what else.   We're immersing our children with the latest in technology  and forgetting about teaching them about compassion, fairness, and as you said civility.

Have a fun week and can't wait to hear about it.

Just this weekend our lesson was about if everyone lived by the Ten Commandments what a perfect world we would have.  We humans seem to have a big problem just following the rules.  Imagine that.

Melinda, speaking of technology, wouldn't it be great for someone to invent a civility app?   It would translate, "you ignorant gravy sucking pig" to "you sir have a novel view."

CivApp for a kinder, gentler text.   Brian

I just want you to know that today I had an on line argument with someone with no mud slinging.  I was accused of being "political" because of an opinion about a "thing" not a person and I went to great lengths to show my opinion was indeed based on the "thing" and not on the person who did the thing.  I went to far as to point out that I had the same opinion about this "thing" for a different person on the other side of the political isle this past February.  I find people jump to conclusions much too easily.  Now I'm about to head home and love my puppies.  Then later my Donald when he gets home from work.

It seems God knew a little something about civility too... John!  Moses was the Man!

Brian ~ I know the perfect dude to invent a most perfect app ;)))

Good for you Tammy!  It's tough not to get dirty in the midst of a mud fight.  Must love puppies & Donald =)

Brian seems to channel my thoughts on this one.  It reminded me of a story, of two older ladies bragging about their son's accomplishents.  The first one went on and on about what her son did for her lately (send her to Europe on first class vacation) bought her a new car, etc.  Then she turns to her friend and asks her, "and what did Harry do for you", she replied, "Harry sent me to finishing school, so I would not say bull----, when I hear stories like yours, and instead say, "that was nice."

LOL, have fun with Gayle and all the other classy ladies.  A

How did we "become" uncivilized?  We've always been uncivilized. We've been watching way too much TV for decades and now the Internet and people bury their heads further. Gone are the fables with the morals of the story where we can interpret the meanings of our moral code.  We watch a pig come to the aid of a distressed goat and say "Oh, that's a cute story," but the fables of the past are gone . . . helping out those who are mired in the mud.  And the moral of the story: if a pig can help a goat, why are we so uncivilized and want to mire people with mud?

I am so with you on this.  I am with Gayle above and don't watch the news.  I just can't.  Whenever I do I am appalled at our behavior as a country sometimes.  When we start reaching out to help one another, then it will change..have a fabulous week!

Hi Mel, sadly I did just that today .. defending our profession. I got sucked in by some crazy insulting comments on an article and well, it just ticked me off.

On another note, I made a commitment to pay forward a random act of kindness I recently received and that just makes it all better because we all need love :-)

Have a wonderful time at FHL!

They sure did and it sure does... Lou!  Thank you for always stopping by =)

I don't watch much TV either... Brenda.  Just happened to flip it on for 5 minutes and got my fill.  I wonder what it would be like to have a National Love Time-Out... everywhere in the world, even just for 5 minutes =)

It happens to the best of us... Andrea!  But look what you did with your random act of kindness commitment... paying it forward is an act of love and equally rewarding!  Blessings my friend =)
