It's that time of year. Today I harvested what was left of my tomatoes, and herb garden at work. I even collected some seeds so that next year I don't have to buy, but just plant what I collected today. Donald is doing the shopping and either today or tomorrow I will be planting the fall colored mums on the planters on the porch.
I welcome fall... with the exception of the time change. That abrupt getting dark early is the one thing that I dread. I walk my puppies (okay they are dogs), but I still think of them as puppies... when I get home from work and in winter that means walking them in the dark. I carry a light, I wear light clothes, but I still don't like it. But that's the only part I don't like.
I love the cooler weather. I love the smell of the fire in the fireplace, I love the foods of fall. I love the colors of fall. I tend to read more in the cooler months which I really enjoy. And actually business slows down a bit and allows for me to "catch up" on things and sometimes even fit in a vacation.
To over the next few days I will be getting out the Thanksgiving and Halloween decorations and dusting them off and getting ready for the months of fall. One of my very favorite things is the Jack-o-lantern that my Donald carves for us each year. They are amazing. I'll likely run some photos of those past ones in my blog posts in October. He does such a great job. I'm also going to be out and about looking for the perfect fall photo for this year. Tri-County EMC has a "fall photo" contest and I'm thinking of entering.
I also cook more in fall. I love to bake, but don't do much of it in the summer months as the oven heats the house so, but in fall Donald can expect pies, and shepard's pie and Mrs. Brown Casserole more often. And when it's cool enough the snakes are gone I will get to enjoy my yard a little more and get some fall planting done and clean up all the limbs that fell over summer in our "woods" and burn them. In just another couple of weeks the Putnam County burn ban will be lifted. I'm even looking forward to roasting a few marshmallows.
What's your favorite season? and why?
