Severe storms are expected to impact and flood the area tonight near Eastchester, NY 10709
In Westchester County and the lower Hud, meteorologists expect our area to become ground zero for these powerful thunderstorms. That includes cities, towns and hamlets all the way to the Appalachian Trail.

LIVE: Severe Threat Increasing North Carolina to New York
Tonight, flooding rain and high winds could ground air travel and impact major highways, coinciding with rush hour from Bronxville to Scarsdale, NY. Weather pros are predicting a huge zone of flooding rain from the lower Appalachians, across Westchester County to our Long Island Sound towns, and that could stall traffic in some areas.

One Meteorologist predicted that enough rain can fall fast enough, to cause rapid rises on rivers and streams – like the Bronx and Hutchinson Rivers and parkways – and throughout the Atlantic Seaboard.
On top of all this, there's a tornado for the Tri-state area and all five boroughs right now! Most of us in New York state and especially in Westchester County, are unfamiliar with Tornadoes and safety measures to prevent injury.

So, here are important tornado safety tips:
· First, take shelter in an interior, lower level room with no windows (glass that can shatter).
Basements are a good bet, as long as there is no risk of flooding, as with this wind and rain storm.
· Lie flat on a mattress and be sure to have another pad or cover for your head as well.
· Do not try to drive or outrun a tornadoe, just move away at a right angle (or 90 degrees) from the “twister” and its apparent path.
Last, if your basement or lower level floods in lower Westchester County, be sure to get it dried quickly, to prevent later mold growth. Restoration companies like ours will do a free walk-through to make sure that your home or business is structurally dry, and that it will remain mold-free.
Stay safe tonight, especially our neighbors in Easchester, NY 10709!
