Too Bee in my Queen Anne Palm Tree

My home is landscaped with several types of palm trees which bloom in the summer. This is a Queen Anne Palm tree.

The bees flock to the tree’s flowering stalk which cause the tiny white flowers to float to the ground.

Here is a closeup of the bees flocking to the stalk. They were not happy with me hanging around taking pictures of them...camera shy I guess1

Hi Kristin,

In my time around palm trees, I do not think I have ever noticed the bees......good to know.

Hi Dan,

I guess it must be the nectar as they seemed very perturbed when I was taking their pictures. I take flower pictures all the time with bees and they seem to ignore me. Maybe the nectar is really intoxicating?

Hi Joni,

I have a palm in the backyard which is a regular type about 25 ft high and it blooms these huge pods of flowers and there must be millions of bees on the pod and you can hear them buzzing. The tree is so big that I am having it removed this fall plus the white flowers get all over the patio and pool.

Happy Fall!

Wonder what palm tree hiney tastes like. The take of flower affects the honey's flavor. Not one I have ever heard of.......

Hi Than,

I do not know as around here most of the bees like the orange and other fruit trees. I am guessing most like the orange trees.

We have an abundance of orange groves in the Inland Empire. Riverside CA had the first Valencia Orange tree brought from rail in the early 1900s from Europe. Until building expanded in the state, most was covered with groves or cows.

Wow, what a sight to have right in your own yard. Great shots here, too. Quite the feast for so many bees!

Great shot Kristin! Thanks for sharing those photos of your queen palm tree. Wish that the bees are not that camera shy. Enjoy the week!

Hi Gretchen, Sometimes they are not as interesting as this one was this week so I was glad to find it right after it started blooming. Thanks for stopping and glad you enjoyed it.

Hi Mike, The bees were OK when I was taking pictures around the tree but when I got below it and shot upwards, that must have made them mad so I took a couple and ran inside. Help...the bees got angry.

Kristin,

Those trees sure do produce plenty of flowers - have a few of them also. :)

Hi Steve, I can imagine that California, Hawaii and Florida have more palms than the other states. Lots of flowering stems and lots of bees!
