HUGE ACORNS - WHAT'S IN STORE FOR GANANOQUE THIS WINTER ?

By

Gananoque, On

I was showing a property the other day and noticed the most amazing acorns on this oak tree.  They were HUGE!

The ground was littered with them and I was imagining the work-out the little squirrels and chipmunks would have trying to get these stored away for the winter!!

I then wondered what the reason was for them being so large? And falling whilst still green?  What's that all about??

The Farmer's Almanac tells us, in our area, to get ready for a very harsh winter; the abundance of acorns and pinecones is nature's way of looking out for the animals.

What are you seeing in your area?

Should we follow the squirrels example and get prepared for a long harsh winter?

I don't think it could hurt!

Let me help you find a warm and cozy home for you to squirrel away for the winter . . .  Call Susan Emo, Your Favourite Gananoque Realtor, and together we'll find you the perfect place, harsh winter or not!

Susan-You best stay away from those beautiful acorn trees with your car. When they fall they will make BIG dents.

Hi Susan,

I do think it will be a cold and snowy winter, although fall is supposed to be quite warm.  I noticed that the birds all started to migrate south about 2 weeks early this year...perhaps they know something we don't know?

Susan,

I cut the grass tonight, and not an acorn in sight. Mild winter I hope.

Susan - Our west coast squirrels are burying their umbrellas, ready for a wet, soggy winter.  I hope their eastern cousins stay warm this winter!

Susan,

Excellent post. I tend to think of Gananoque only in the summer.

Interesting Susan- I have noticed an abundance of pine cones on the ground this year--- well, we better buckle in, it might be a harsh winter!
