I thought I would share the wonderful talents of my new friend Glenda Koenig.
She moved here, Sun City West Arizona, in 2008 from Nebraska.
Her daughter bought her a 1319 square foot home without her getting to look at it. She assured her mother she would be very happy. It had two bedrooms and a place for her to garden.
Gardening is very important to Glenda. She has a degree in Fine Art, was a landscaping designer, had a landscaping business at one time, and had a florist business also.
Unfortunately, she know nothing about the Arizona weather habits and soil issues. The first thing Glenda did was to gather as many books on Arizona gardening as possible. She studied the soil, kept track of the daily temperature and humidity,and the direction of the sun. Finally, she designed her garden.
As you can see, Glenda has a very small area to garden in. However, I am sure you will agree it is beautiful as well as very peaceful.
She put down cement tiles to create a pathway and surrounded this with small rocks. There were several trees that were brought in and are pruned to perfection. She created her own water feature with just the right amount of noise by her lanai. One of the walls was painted a deep purple and a beautiful mirror was placed on the wall to create a window effect. She added many vines and trellises to give you a lush feel.
Just like any perfect Japanese garden, where ever you eye looks, there is beauty.
