What Does Country Roads, Beautiful Fall Foliage and Mineral Springs Have in Common?

What does country roads, beautiful fall foliage, southern charm and mineral springs have in common?  Why the Homestead Resort of course!

My husband and I spent two fantastic nights at the resort.  The Homestead Resort is nestled amidst the breathtaking scenery of Virginia's Allegheny Mountains, only minutes from George Washington National Forest, and is located in Hot Springs, VA.  From Lewisburg, WV, it is about a one-hour drive to the resort.  A beautiful drive up, down and around country roads with beautiful scenery.

For over two centuries The Homestead has offered guests a welcome respite from the routines of the day with southern hospitality and southern charm.  Mountain air clears the mind. Mineral waters invigorate the spirit, and a refined ambiance invites relaxation.

While there I enjoyed the mineral spring waters at the Jefferson Pools. The Jefferson Pools consist of two main buildings. In 1761, the octagonal Gentlemen’s Pool House was built for use by ladies and gentlemen alike, though at alternate times from early morning to late evenings. It is the oldest spa structure in the United States. President Thomas Jefferson, who suffered from rheumatism, visited these very pools in August of 1818.  The Homestead Archives contain the original guest books documenting Jefferson’s 22-day visit, during which he found great relief in the warm mineral spring waters. The pools were named after Jefferson.

The circular, Ladies Pool House was constructed in 1836, at last giving ladies a pool of their own.

You soak in these legendary mineral springs that are crystal-clear with a temperature of 90 degrees for an hour for only $17.  Oh my, I felt wonderful...it was a great experience and I plan to go back once or twice a week.  Soaking in the mineral waters seem to help my psoriasis.  I plan to take my sisters and brother, and since it is only an hours drive we can take in the scenery and have lunch at one of the restaurants at the resort all in a day.

The United States Geological Survey determined that these springs have a remarkably uniform rate of temperature and flow and are unaffected by changes of the seasons – their waters are natural body temperature all year and flow at the astounding rate of 1,700,000 gallons per day. The mineral content of the waters is so high that you float easily and so crystal clear you can read a book through them.

Oh how those Mineral Springs sound so good right now.  It's been a manic Monday around here and I'm ready for some rest and relaxation.  The Homestead Place looks like a very beautiful and inviting place.

On our way to Ohio from Annapolis MD we would travel through a couple of sections of West Virginia. The hills of western MD, PA and WV are great to see especially now.
