How to enhance your real estate blog

One of today’s best ways of promoting your real estate business online is by having your own real estate blog.  A blog allows you to demonstrate your expertise on your local real estate market.  Aside from your website’s listings, a blog is the best thing you can have for both attracting qualified prospects from your farm area and getting them signing up for your email mailing list.  So it’s worth your time and money to enhance your blog in various ways with the latest technology.  Here are some ways of doing that:

Referrable To Social Media Sites

One of the biggest things that boosts your website’s ranking in search engines like Google is having your website’s links on other people’s websites.  These are called backlinks.  If your website has 50 back links on other people’s websites for your farm area, it will be ranked higher than your area’s competitor who only has 20 back links on other people’s websites.

One of the best ways of getting back links is having a blog where your readers can create back links to social media sites with a single click.  In other words, if someone reads one of your articles and enjoys it, they can refer it with a single click to one of these social media sites where it will be published, thus creating a back link on that social media site.  So your blog articles should be readily referable to the most popular sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Delicious, Technorati, MySpace, Digg, StumbleUpon, Newsvine, and Google Bookmarks.  The more popular the social site you’re referred to is, the more that referral will help your search engine ranking.  The more referrals your articles get, the more highly search engines will regard those articles, thus boosting your SEO for those topics.

Videos On Your Blog

Your blog needn’t be just writing.  You can easily have video clips posted within your blog for your readers.  So make sure you use a blog where Podcasts and Vidcasts can be easily incorporated into your articles.  Your blog should allow two options: hosting the video on the blog’s server, or having it link to a site like YouTube where it’s hosted.  Using the latter method will get you the greater exposure.

Video-wise, the best thing to use for your blog is video tours of your listings.  They’re becoming increasingly inexpensive and professional looking these days.  If you don’t use those, try to find quality content on YouTube your target audience would appreciate.  There are plenty of real estate professionals you aren’t competing with who use YouTube for posting short educational videos.  Don’t be afraid of linking the best ones to your blog – after all, by doing so you’re creating back links for them which helps their search engine ranking!
