Here is a 2 minute trailer about the Documentary .... a 12 year old girl put in a cantina drinking 30 beers a night
Houston Sex Trade Cantinera Documentary
My sister just finished a documentary "The Cantinera" about human sex trafficking here in Houston. I am really proud of her for bringing awareness to this issue, sometimes putting herself in harms way. There were nights she would go film all night with an undercover camera or do stake outs to help some of these girls.
This documentary "The Cantinera" is being premiered, October 22 at Rice University.
The stories are heartbreaking!
Here are a few facts:
- Most of the victims are women and minors from Latin American countries
- Recruiters lure with legitimate work or promises of false love
- Some women are targeted from advertisements of "quick money" for being a waitress
- The women drink an average of 20-40 beers per night, 7 nights a week
- Those who are prostituted may have sex with more than 20 men per day
- Drugs are encouraged to increase the dependency on the trafficker, making escape even more difficult
- Their belongings are confiscated, including false documentation to make escape almost impossible
- Enslaved victims live at the brother or close, where they are monitored and transported by the trafficker.
- The victims are moved from brothel to brother within an organization to keep them from becoming familiar with their location or cantina.
