Celebrating 100 featured posts...what's your first? I'll reblog it!

By
Home Builder with The Flooring Girl

I remember when I started Active Rain a little over 2 years ago - lost, confused, isolated and CLUELESS about featured posts.  I thought I would never get one.  I remember reading a post by Margaret Woda entitled Re-discovering my first FEATURED post on Active Rain.  In there, she mentioned that she had 100 Featured posts!

margaret wodaI was blown away.  I couldn't even figure out how to get 1 featured post, and Margaret had 100!.  How the heck did she do that?  And, what the heck was I doing wrong?  Anyway, in this post down memory lane for her, she promised that if people went to find their first featured post, she would reblog it, and I thought that was a nice gesture.  I told myself that if I ever got to her level, I would do the same and help the AR community.

Margaret's thinking was that if it got featured, it probably has wide appeal and it's probably also timeless.  I think her logic is great, so I'm inviting you all to do the same in the comments.

For me, the journey started out slow. My first featured post was the 23rd post I wrote...but it did not get featured right away (I had written 46 posts by the time it was featured).  I remember getting frustrated because I wasn't getting any features...and I had invited 2 other members who got featured on their first post.  Somehow, that just didn't seem fair.  But, I knew, some of it was just luck.

When I first started, I had very few subscribers, especially because my topics were so "niche."  After all, I'm not a real estate agent, I'm a Flooring Girl (although last I checked, most homes have floors).  So, I kept plugging away, and learning and commenting and eventually I got a few subscribers. And, then, I got more comments, had more fun and learned more and it became a virtuous cycle, but certainly not over night.

Bamboo Flooring. Is it hard or soft?

It's fun to go back and read some of the comments, especially from those that you now know and see here in the Rain on a regular basis.  And, here I am 26 months later and I did what Margaret did, so it is possible.

So, I invite you to look back at your first featured post.  Feel free to add a link here, and I will reblog it over the next couple of weeks or so.  Oh, and if you want some good blog posts to read, check out the comments - I'm sure there will be some great ones

Debbie- I remember when you first came to AR.. I thought "Wow, now this lady has information we can all use!"

Here's my first Featured post : ActiveRain Works for You.    I'm changing it to Public but when I posted it, I made it Members Only. (I have no idea why.)

I did not get my first feature until February of 2010, even though I'd been at AR for a bit.  I was a lurker, and a very slow starter.  I thought 2 or 3 posts a month were enough.  I have tried to catch up and now have 150 Featured posts.

Debbie - I like the idea of posting the first feature of our members. It's great to see how we have changed over time. Looking forward to reading them all.

I think this is my first feature, I didn't even know what that meant at the time.  :)

Christine - excellent.  I will reblog.

Kathy - Wow, 150, that's awesome.  Yes, your weekly highlights are wonderful, too.  I will reblog your first.  Oh, and thank you.  You were one of the first I met here.

Tom - I'm glad you like it too.  I will reblog it soon.

All - pls make sure your post is public and rebloggable.  A few are members only and some are before reblogging was made available.  Try to resave or else send me a link to another featured post.

Hi Debbie, I just wanted to say congratulations to you.  I am very happy about your success.  Flooring is more interesting than education.  I've only had a couple of featured posts is all.  I mostly try to blog about our upcoming classes, products and services.  I guess that is pretty boring.  Thank you for all you contribute to AR.   Keep up the good work.

Debbie - You've accomplished so much in such a short period of time!  You are amazing.  It probably took some time for the AR folks to figure out that the AR community cares about flooring.  I learn so much from you.  I just read your first post and now I know more about bamboo floors.  Thank you!

Unlike you, I've been slow and steady in posting over the past five and a half years.  However I did have the good fortune of having my first post on AR featured.  It was another full year before I had another featured post.  Go figure!  I've now had just over 50 featured posts.

What does that even mean?  The title is practically incoherent.  I have no images.  I guess the basic concept was good enough to get it featured or it was "Feature a Newbie Day."  So embarrassing!

Debbie, The reason you have had so many features is that you are sharing good information with us. Congratulations and keep it up, Flooring Girl. I will go back and check out my first featured post and be back. I think I know which one it is but it's been awhile.
