Since 1972, the round tower in the heart of Destin has been recognized as the Holiday Inn. The tower will still remain, but the rest of this resort is going under major renovation starting this fall.
The Holiday Inn plans to take full advantage of their gulf front location, demolishing the existing east structure and building a new nine-story east tower with larger guest rooms and a new pool area featuring a lazy river. The iconic tower will also receive a face lift, in which every room will have a view of the pool and the Gulf of Mexico.
The new design for the pool area will include a zero-depth entry pool with a lap pool built into it, several private cabanas, a 300 ft. lazy river, and a lot of lush landscaping. Holiday Inn plans on keeping the resort’s children’s program, in which there are treasure hunts and magic shows, so they will add an extensive area just for this as well as other daily activities.
