This Spring one of the major management companies we deal with in the Northeast sent out an email to all brokers that have access to their apartment listings. The email was to inform them that it will now cost $50 per month to be able to show their apartment listings.
That was an unheard of move - At Realtywarp.com, we deal with hundreds of landlords and managements companies and none of them have ever charged brokers for the right to have access to their open listings. The huge demand for apartments seem to have created another opportunity for property owners/managers to make money.
The current market is unlike previous years when the same management company was paying the full broker commission in addition to offering a bonus to agents. Lastly, we can only hope that this does not become a trend.
Question for the ActiveRain community:
Do you think that charging brokers a fee to have access to an open listing is an acceptable practice?
