Circus Themed 2012 Sarasota Chalk Festival To Begin October 28th! The excitement is building for the upcoming Sarasota Chalk Festival which will take place this year from October 28th through November 6th. This year's theme will be Circus City, USA and will highlight Sarasota's wonderful circus heritage.
The Sarasota Chalk Festival is one of the most highly anticipated and unique festivals in Sarasota and the entire country. Chalk artists from all over the world, and locally, will descend on the city to create their fantastic works of art in chalk on the streets of Historic Burns Square in downtown Sarasota.
World famous Kurt Wenner, the godfather of chalk street art, will be creating a one of a kind three dimensional piece of chalk art and will be the festival's featured lecturer at Burns Court Cinema. There will be appearancess during the festival by legendary daredevil Nik Wallenda, whose recent tightrope walk over Niagra Falls enthralled the world, Circ de Soleil La Nouba, Ringling Brothers Circus Acts and Animals, local musicians, singers, street performers and much, much more!
The Sarasota Chalk Festival will be Going Vertical again with a wide variety of wall murals that will be created throughout downtown Sarasota.
Last year's Sarasota Chalk Festival is estimated to have attracted over 200,000 visitors and this year should be a repeat if not a new record. To enhance the viewing of the art each side of the street will be one way only with frequent crossover spots. The Sarasota Chalk Festival has been lengthened to 10 days which include 2 additional days for viewing after the artists have finished. The city has also agreed to leave the chalk art on the streets for up to 30 days this year!
The Sarasota Chalk Festival is another very special event unique to Sarasota, a very unique place to call home. To see some of my previous blogs, including photos, on last year's Sarasota Chalk Festival,l vist Keith Kropp's Blog. Until then, see you at the Sarasota Chalk Festival!
