PADDLES UP! The dragons are coming! Get ready for the sixth annual Cumberland River Dragon Boat Festival, Nashville’s premiere river event. Dragon boat racing is the eighth fastest growing sport in the world and, without a doubt, the most fun, unique cultural event you’ll experience, thanks to its adrenaline-pumping action. Dragon boat racing grows in popularity each year, with more than 50 million people in 63 countries participating. Teams of 20 paddlers, a drummer and a steersperson race in authentic Hong Kong-style, 46-foot-long dragon boats. All ages, skill levels and physiques can paddle and compete, making it the ultimate team building sport, requiring synchronicity and finesse, more than power to win.
On Saturday, September 29, 2012, at Riverfront Park, you can take the ride of your life with more than 40 teams on the Cumberland River in downtown Nashville right in front of LP Field. Thousands of spectators will join you in a large viewing area where they can cheer paddlers, support the advocacy work of the Cumberland River Compact, and celebrate the long tradition of dragon boat racing with a cultural festival unlike any other in Music City. This event was cited by Outside magazine as one of the things that helps makes Nashville one of the country’s best river towns.
All of the festivities are within walking distance to the city’s top restaurants, snack bars, parking, souvenir shops, Country Music Hall of Fame, the Ryman Auditorium, and many other Music City attractions. Bring the whole family and plan on spending the day.
You'll find me cheering in the front row.
