New DMV Office Opens in Palm Desert

Palm Desert residents will no longer have to drive to Indio or Palm Springs to fulfill their Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV)needs. The DMV opened its third location for the Coachella Valley in Palm Desert earlier this week. The new opening is expected to ease wait times at all of the DMV locations, which are typically overcrowded with long wait times. In addition to long wait times, for residents from the middle of the valley neither location was really very convenient to drive to.

There will be a lot of happy residents and even snow birds in Palm Desert with the additional DMV location. Both Indio and Palm Springs required a Palm Desert resident to drive 30 - 45 minutes to reach either DMV office. With the drive and then the long wait periods, you had to plan for your visit taking 3 - 4 hours out of your day when it was time to renew your license but not anymore!

The new facility is 10,780 square feet and is expected to accommodate more than 70,000 people each year. The new building was built with the LEED Green Building Rating System. It also has energy efficient lightening and drought-resistant landscaping. It is located at 74740 Technology Drive, Palm Desert, just north of Gerald Ford.
