RALEIGH REAL ESTATE ~ NEVER SEEN A PURPLE COW? HOW ABOUT PINK?

By
Real Estate Agent with Raleigh Cary Realty NC Broker #178638

Pink Cow Raleigh NC 2012 I'm  a big fan of public art.  Nothing is more delightful than to come across some unexpected item of creative whimsy in the course of daily business.

Yesterday I went to the North Hills Mall in North Raleigh on a very mundane errand, in search of a new pair walking shoes from Omega Sports.  I parked my car and walked across the street  and what should I encounter but a pink cow!  How very novel!   I kept my eyes open then, and found four more of these life-size cow statues.   You can guess which one was in front of the movie theater.  I think the scary-looking one is painted in honor of the Mexican holiday Dia de los Muertos, Day of the Dead, November first.  As for the one decorated with dogwood flowers, she must be a Southern Cow Belle.

There are 80 decorated cows around the Triangle, on display for three months and then destined to be auctioned to benefit NC Children's Hospital.  You can download a map or, if you prefer, an app for your mobile phone to help you find them all.  Visit www.cowparadenc.com for maps, appls, and information

Dianne,

According to the California Wine Country, Sonoma is where this all started...They have an annual cow decorating and its a delight...Love your cow show too, and the creativity is a joy to behold. A

Dianne, I am glad you got to the bottom of that loose herd of cows. How clever they look and why not, it's for a good cause.

HI Dianne, I love the Cow Show. I had first seen when it was on display in Chicago while visiting the NAR Headquarters

Hi Alexandra.  Was ist Sonoma?  I thought Chicago started it all.  Anyway something like 5,000 cows have been decorated so far!

Debbie, we had wolves all over Raleigh a few years ago -- NC State's mascot is the wolf.  Clearly wolves wouldn't be welcome in Durham (home of Duke) or Chapel Hill (home of UNC).   I suspect that cows work well because 1) there's lots of "canvas" to work with, and 2) no school has a cow for its sacred symbol.  Bulls, yes, but these are anatomically correct cows!

Hi Nellie.  Thanks!  The photos were taken with my iPhone.  It's a decent camera, and it's always with me!

You have painted cows...Baltimore has painted crabs. Bringing smiles and art to our city.

HI Toni.  It's so fun to see what the artists have come up with!

Margaret, I've never seen a painted crab.  The cows are life-size -- but that wouldn't work for your crabs ...
