Augusta Kitchen Appliances

For the first time in over a decade, a major U.S. appliance maker has released a top-end kitchen collection in a finish other than stainless steel.  Whirlpool recently introduced a deluxe line in White Ice.  The white exterior with silver accents mimics the popular ascetic of Apple products.  The iOven, iRefrigerator, and iMicrowave were recently featured in House Beautiful magazine’s Kitchen of Year event.

Though Whirlpool’s own Amana line introduced a floral refrigerator finish back in 2009, the colorful appliance trend has been dominated by European makers.  Smeg, an Italian company, builds retro-looking fridges that are available in a whole rainbow of shades.

With all these options, is stainless still king?  Almost all of the upcoming major-brand premium kitchen lines will still be stainless, so the industry must think so.

Consumers may agree.  Stainless has become the standard for kitchen design because its easy to clean and can cheaply and easily update the look of a home.  This trend in home design is still relatively new to the U.S. so it will be interesting to monitor.

In the meantime, what color kitchen appliances would you like in your home?
