Outrageous Real Estate Story

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Preferred Realty

I am not sure if this will even make the top 10 but here is one very uncomfortable situation I ran into worthy of a story.

I was previewing a home for prospective out of town buyer. The homeowners ended up being home during the preview. This happened to be one of those homeowners that liked to walk you through the house and show every detail. I had no idea at that time what kind of detail I was about to get.

Right away this women started to talk about her daughter and how proud she was of her. She walked me into her daughters room and right on the dresser was a framed picture I never would have imagined I would see in any females room. It appeared to be from a magazine. The picture was of a women in all her glory. Being in this room with the mother of that daughter that had this picture being displayed was very uncomfortable to begin with. I started drifting out the door and she proceeded to ask me if I thought her daughter was pretty. I was a little confused at first. She than points at the picture and asks me if I thought her daughter was pretty again. I was shocked, the picture on display was her daughter, who would have guessed?

She than started to tell me her daughter was a Playboy Model and how proud of her she was. She pulled out Playboy magazine as if she was going to show me some other pictures. This had to be the oddest experience I have had showing a home. I am glad they are proud of their daughter but I was really surprised on their willingness to share this with a total stranger.

We proceeded to view the rest of the property. When we entered the basement it was all decked out in pink. She had stated that her niece was living with them. This is when some more uncomfortable questions started such as “are you single?”, “would you be interested in meeting my niece”?

Leaving the property I felt like I came out of some weird sitcom or one of those hidden camera shows. I wasn’t sure what I was going to tell my clients. The property seemed to fit their criteria so I decided to give them all the details about my visit which ended with a good laugh.

We never revisited the property but I have to be honest, I was kind of curious on how they would have presented this to my clients or an actual family that came through the property for a showing.

The one part of this business that never changes is that we are dealing with so many different varieties of people and personalities, it will always keep things interesting.

Raymond, get use to that my friend which is in charge of one of the High-end condos in South Beach, tells me stories like this all the time. BTW the building has 6 billionaire owners, you have no idea what the other half lives like and what they do that seems normal to them. Don't be to shocked, just enjoy the ride.

I can tell you that is NOT how my Mom would react if she were in that woman's shoes.  She'd be hiding the photos or any trace of evidence that might shame the family.
