Attending a Net Neutrality Pow-Wow in Memphis

I've been here for a few days now, and I must say that the National Conference for Media Reform (NCMR2007) this year is excellent. I've been blogging the details on my "other blog," (I'm actually an 'official blogger' for the event) but wanted to be sure that I shared some of the information I now have that helps to explain why Net Neutrality is an issue that matters to Real Estate agents and brokers alike.

I met Tim Wu, Columbia Law School professor (specializing in telecommunications law, copyright and international trade) and probable author of the term Net Neutrality (see his paper from 2003 entitled Network Neutrality, Broadband Discrimination). If you want something a bit easier to digest that will give you his informed view of the issues related to Net Neutrality, you may want to check out the following:

Why You Should Care About Network Neutrality

(He's also a genuinely nice guy who takes the time to answer questions to make the whole concept a bit easier to digest.)

It's interesting to note the variety of factions that have come together to discuss issues as diverse as those presented at this conference. I came so I could better understand the big picture of how media influences small business owners, how access impacts entrepreneurs and what I can do for (and with) my own clients to ensure that we can all continue to compete, unfettered, on the Internet.

Aside from the information I've gleaned, I've also enjoyed the speeches and the events. If you want to learn more about the conference, you can view photos, transcripts, reports and even streaming video here, just click on the titles of the events that have already happened to view the videos (next best thing to being here!)

If you want to read about my own insights and impressions, check out my "other" blog: WickedBlog.com.

I'm sure it will take quite a few days to absorb all the information I'm gathering and to figure out how it works in the "big picture" of my own business, and the businesses of my clients and peers. In the meantime, I'm taking LOTS of notes and simply enjoying this informative, "makes-you-think," and star-studded event.

Now, I go back to the conference to see Geena Davis speak tonight...among others.

I like the electricity analogy.  And the word "meritocratic" is wonderful.
