Well outside of the glitz and glam of New York City is a town called Saugerties. It’s an unlikely place to see images of Destin beaches, but that’s precisely what you’ll see at “Glass Paper Sidewalk,” the title of a show that opened September 8 at Saugerties’ Doghouse Gallery.
Gay Leonhardt and Loel Barr collaborated on the project that features individual photographs and drawings. “Sidewalk” is the collaborative project that grew out of Leonhardt’s guerrilla art projects, but was conceived by Barr, while “Glass” refers to Leonhardt’s “Glass at the Beach” series of digital prints. Here, images of Destin’s beaches made the grade, and the large prints depict four-by-six-inch glass slides painted with sand and acrylic paint that were then placed on the beach and photographed.
