What's the Word Wednesday, 10/10/12

What's the Word This Wednesday?  The word is nice.  I'm nice.  I get a kick out of being nice.  I get told, fairly often, that I am too nice. I am not tooting my horn.  I disagree with this sentiment because I don't happen to think that anyone can be too nice.  Don't get me wrong, I'm sure I am not always nice because I'm human but for the most part, it's just in my makeup to be nice.  I think it's kind of selfish actually.  I am nice because I LIKE to be nice.  It makes ME happy to be nice.  I think the world would be more peaceful if everyone was nice.

Yesterday, I was out with my son at a doctor's appointment and one of the nurses overhead us talking about getting a credit card for him.  He's a recent college graduate who needs to establish some credit and she happened to walk into the room while we were discussing it.  She chimed in as she has a daughter about my son's age and when we were leaving, she promised to call me as soon as she spoke to her daughter to let us know which credit card company would work with recent graduates.  We weren't in the car 15 minutes before she called my cell to give me the information.  My son and I were discussing how nice this was.  And it was, VERY nice.  I told him that I expected everyone to be nice and that truly, most people live up to that expectation.  As in most things, you get what you are expecting.

One of the things I love to do is pull up to the mailbox when I get home and get my mail.  If I have a personally handwritten envelope there, I open it right there, before I even park my car.  It's so NICE to get personal notes.  Yesterday, I got a personal note from a friend in New Orleans whom I adore but have never met.  How about that?  How nice is it that in this day and age we have friends all across the country, some we've never met but whom we've grown to be fond of through Facebook updates and blog posts?  I think it's super nice.

I just got back from a four day trip to Boston.  It was one of the NICEST weekends I've ever spent, with my closest neighbor and her wonderful brother and I can't say enough NICE things about that city.   It's the kind of place I would to love to live in; Boston is truly an interesting and beautiful city.  It was so nice of my friend's brother to show us around and be so generous with his time too!

In case you didn't' catch it, today's word is NICE.  Wishing you a nice rest of it.   Carpe Diem!

Hey Susan-NICE post and I like your word for the day. I have been told by many folks that I am too nice and for a LONG time I could never figure how you could be TOO nice but I have since figured out how and that is if you are TOO nice to people you can sometimes be taken advantage of if you are. So I have tried to set boundaries but my personality as being a people pleaser makes it hard sometimes. I have also been called SWEET a lot. I am not so sure about that as we are all human and not perfect so even if we are nice or sweet we have our days when things happen but if our personality and core is nice then that is what we will be the majority of the time.

Sharon, agreed that nice people may be getting taken advantage of at times but I'm willing to take my lumps and be happily nice.  Boundaries are very important though and I don't think I'm so nice that people other than my family take advantage.  My sons do, that's for sure but that's what moms do.  I've been called sweet too.  goes with the territory.  :-)

Susan!

I too would say you are NICE!!!  (and sometimes maybe too nice:) but that's also why everyone loves you!

I would have said there is no such thing as Too nice, but my views have changed lately.   Be nice to yourself first

This is something I have learned only recently:) It's amazing how things change when we center and take a stand for ourselves.

And I agree with Margaret above, Expect it and it will happen!

Hi Karen!  I've been trying to be nicer to myself lately too.  I have a friend, when I say something unkind about my weight, who always says "you are so mean to yourself".  It's funny, because I try never to be mean to anyone else!   I have yet to learn how to center myself.  I'll keep tring!
