Open House on SuperBowl Sunday??

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Flanagan Realty
I am debatiing about hosting an Open House at my listing out on Wallach Drive in Toms River on SuperBowl Sunday. The game isn't untl after 6 and the OH would be from 1-4. The activity at our office open houses has really picked up since the first of the year-we are averaging 8-10 people per house--so I don't want to waste a good opportunity! any thoughts??

What do you have to lose?

Well, you are pretty close to NY, right?

But...What do you have to lose?

I don't know - I think the guys may want to be at their super bowl party.  Don't these parties start hours before the game?  (as you can tell, I have zero interest in the SB and do not pay much attention to it at all.)

wow, that would be a no brainer for me! Everyone I know is having a super bowl party. I would think very few people would be driving around in the cold looking at houses....but that's just one opinion.

Thanks for the comments, it's about what I was thinking...it might not be very well attended by those fans that want to "prepare' all day for the game at 6 but what do I have to lose??! we'll see, maybe I'll sell it. :)

If its vacant, I say what the heck!  In fact, advertise it as a Super Open House (remember you can't use Super Bowl as its a trademark of the NFL).  Put up streamers, lots of balloons, maybe an inflatable man in the front yard to commerate the day.  Just because its the largest televised sporting event doesn't mean everyone will watch it, right.

Personally, I've learned that during NASCAR season here, I don't hold an open on a race Sunday if I'm in the country.  If I do, I have either the game or race on somewhere in the house on mute so that they stick around.

What do you have to lose?

Time you could spend with your family or friends...

but then again, maybe you'll pick up some desperate housewives out to find a new abode while the hubbys drink beer  and eat pretzels...lol

I say go for it!  Bring other work to do, and get some prospecting done...if you make one contact that turns to a sale down the road it's worth it!  So I always say don't talk yourself out of anything.  What else would you do?  If it's a family day that's different, or you have plans, but if not do the open hosue.

Open houses don't work well in my area.  The only reason that I hold them from time to time is to keep a client happy.  Although I'm not a SB fan, I don't hold opens on SB Sunday simply because few people go to opens out here, and there would be much less on SB Sunday.

I say go for it. I'm a huge Giant fan, but I'm going to hold an open that day. Heck, the game doesn't start till 6 - go for it!

SB Sunday ... good question... I don't know much about Toms River NJ where you are from but if you have snow you may want to do a winter themed hot chocolate and toasting marshmallows over the fire pit open house... Have it outside in the driveway? worked really well here in North Conway, NH this weekend on a new construction.  30 people over 2 days, which is a LOT for around here... plus you get to drink hot chocolate and toast marshmallows...

I wouldn't have it.  Superbowl Sunday is an all day event.  Enjoy your Sunday.

I would highly recommend waiting an extra week.  I have seen people try to have these before, and they inevitably flop.  Just my two cents -
