When I first started my career in real estate, in the late 80s, many of us did more extravagent Realtor inspections that included wine and appetizers. I must admit we got a whole lot more agents attending than we do now, and it was a lot more fun. Then came the laws that said if someone got into an accident after they had too much to drink, the person serving them the booze would be held liable. Suddenly, Realtor inspections became what I suppose they were always intended to be: a time for Realtors to see homes that they might have a buyer for, AND have a nosh at the same time --- minus the booze, of course.
Well, the times they are a'changin, as Dylan told us, and it appears the Days of Wine and Cheese are back. I don't know how many of you are finding fewer Realtors turning out for your catered lunches, but in NW Bergen County, NJ, the numbers are almost half what they were 10 years ago. I'm not sure I understand, but a guess might be that in a much ore difficult market than we saw 10 years ago, Realtors are spending their free time looking for business. Spending two hours driving around to preview homes no longer seems productive to them, not to mention the whole gas issue.
I'd like to hear from agents about how they're getting Realtors to pay attention to their listings.
