Signs that the transaction might be troubling

Signs that the transaction may be trouble...

One of our most rural listings was on a county road between Ignacio and Durango Colorado.

The acreage was surrounded by barbed wire fencing with a large metal gate across the driveway.

Not wanting trespass issues we decided to put the lock box on  the gate.

One of the first agents to show the house called us around her scheduled appointment.

She apparently had  climbed the fence along with her clients and was on the front porch when she called to ask where the lock box was.

When we told her where it was, she was indignant.  "why on earth would you put it there!  I have to walk all the way back?"

It was a clue!  She did write an offer. It was one of three that came in.   Although her offer was the best, it was also full of difficulties.  Yes, she was new in the business.  She also started out with a tremendous attitude.  It was contagious!

Everytime we had to deal with her, the issues became contentious.  From the day when we had erroneously put the lock box in a location she did not approve of,  she did everything possible to make things difficult.

I am sure it was all a matter of perspective.  Oddly, I still feel that much of her difficulties originated with her attitude....  She did provide some serious levity, but it would have made her angrier if she had known it!

Ralph and Jeanne, I am not ever sure why agents, or people for that matter, want to always come at another with an attitude, or being angry all the time, Not sure how they expect that to help them, the deal or their client in anyway.  I do hope it closed for you without a hitch!  Best to you!

Angry doesn't work. Don't get deals done with attitude. Have to work it out.

Unfortunately this business does attract a number of people with inflated egos who would let a minor incident like this affect the outcome of a business transaction. Being right or wrong about a silly thing like this shouldn't be important to anyone, however, they let it set the tone for everything that follows.

Greetings Ralph and Jeanne, I hope it all worked out in the end and you closed the deal.  You must cover a lot of area, Durango seems like a long way away from Woodlands.

Jeanne and Ralph-Sometimes newer agents have opinions about how things should work that are at odds with the real world of real estate.

Jeanne and Ralph,

Suggested! This happens more frequently than not and it's a shame that a bad attitude in the beginning is just the start of more to come. Why do agents (new or seasoned) make their lives so complicated and why do they feel everybody else is wrong or has a problem, except them?

I think this would make a good contest. For now, you just have to hold your breath and pray it closes successfully and with speed! Good luck!

I would have put the lockbox in the exact same place. Did she want a load of buckshot, climbing over the fence like that? Not too bright in my not so humble opinion.....................
