One of my favorite Fall pastimes is taking in the scenery while attending a day at the US Military Academy at West Point, Orange County, NY. As a Brit, as you can imagine, I don't know too much about the American game of Football. I grew up in Wales where Rugby is the game of choice. However, ever since I landed in the USA over 20 years ago I have enjoyed watching the American game of football, but never more than at West Point games.
Just the 35 minute drive from my hometown Piermont, NY to the West Point campus is enjoyable at this time of year. The Palisades Interstate Parkway is in full fall glory as you drive up through the Harriman State Park over Bear Mountain and down to the Hudson again where one of my stops is always to view the spectacular scenery at Bear Mountain bridge situated at a narrow point of the Hudson. The towering cliffs remind me a little of my native home.
This weekend's game promises to be a great one as the weather is promising to be spectacular. The morning parade followed by a tailgating brunch in the meadow and game against Kent this Homecoming weekend should provide a lot of excitement too. All surrounded by one of the most beautiful, breathtaking scenic sights in the world. The gorgeous leaf colors, with the backdrop of Storm King mountain and Hudson River. Take the bus tour if you aren't interested in the football, but the cadets ensure you a lot of fun, even if you don't enjoy the game itself and I highly recommend you do.
If you are interested in the game and can't get to be there in person this weekend, there's always the TV and radio. See schedule and channels below.
