Business owners Searcy AR

Here are two more ads from the Women's Missionary Society Cook Book that we think may date back to the 20's in Searcy Arkansas.

Read about the handmade clothes.  What's a bushelman?  What is Glover continuous flow?

At least we have the location of one of the businesses.  600 South Spring Street, Searcy AR.  I tried to find what is at 600 S Spring now and was unsuccessful.  Don can do it!

Just for Ms Debbie, I left a recipe on the page.  That is the entire recipe, not just a part of it.  Sounds pretty easy.

There is quite a bit of difference in phone numbers.  Got to love it.

Barbara, this is, indeed A FIND!   The grape sherbert recipe by Mrs. T(om) A. Watkins......they lived in the house on East Race that you recently blogged.....a lawyer has bought it and rehabbed the house.  Lawyer is a woman.  (that's all I can remember......her name is Choate I think)....

I swear I've heard the name A.B. Coffman before but that's all.  Those terms are hilarious and not know by me.

I LOVE IT!  Thank you, Ms. B...is this Watkins related to the Watkins that lived in our house for a while?  I never met them but I remember the last name.   I wonder if you could substitute any juice for that grape...I don't like grape sherbert...but I think even I could mix those ingredients together and put them in the freezer...ha...

Clothes Made...well, that's a first...I have seen that advertised a number of different ways but never just like that...simple and to the point...sure wish I could get them to make some for my husband now...this new fangled stuff just doesn't last...

1920...hmm...either they didn't speak English back then or we have drifted from it today...it's a foreign language to me!

Ms. Anita...it is nice to see that the blog has forgiven us and taken us back.

Searcy Laundry used to be on the SW corner of Main and Beebe Capps.  Don't know if it was the same one mentioned in the book.

Tim and Toby, thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Anita, sad to say but that name above the recipe was for the previous recipe, not the sherbert one.  The one I attached had no name on it.  But I'll bet the Mrs. T. A. Watkins was the one who lived in that house.  Sharp eye you have!

Debbie, the Watkins who lived in your house was a Watson, wasn't he?  And he was young.  (But I could be wrong.)

Ludean, that laundry is still there isn't it?  Huge one too.

Harold Gene, thanks for the definitions.  It was a pretty complex ad when you take all those meanings into consideration.
