Willowfork Fire Department Hosting Open House in Katy Texas
The Willowfork Fire Department in conjunction with National Fire Prevention Week will hold an open house on Sunday October 13, 2011 from 1:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. The station is located at 24655 Westheimer Parkway Katy Texas. All guests will be able to tour the entire station, see all the different types of firefighting equipment and meet face to face to face with these brave fire fighters and learn all about fire safety. Everyone in my opinion should thank these brave folks for their hard work protecting numerous local area homes. The station has 7 firefighters available on each swift on a 24 hour by 7 days a week schedule.
National Fire Prevention Week runs from Sunday October 7 and ends on Saturday October 13, 2012. The Fire Prevention Week’s campaign this year is " Two Ways Out”. The main trust is to educate all of us on the main causes of home fires and give all of us various tips on how to protect you and your family’s home with both new and old lifesaving technologies. National Fire Prevention team always stresses the importance of creating a home escape plan for all members of the family to follow in case of a fire. Each person should have at least two ways to escape any home in case a fire breaks out.
The Willowfork Fire Station is also home to Fort Bend County EMS ambulance and Medic 9. This group is staffed by two full time employees from the Fort Bend County Emergency Medical Services. EMS personnel are available every day for 24 hours each day.
Residents of the service area have an excellent opportunity to see the Fire Station and get to know the personnel and their equipment. As I said above all of us need to thank both the brave fighters and EMS personnel for all of their hard work keeping the rest of us safe and alive. The Firefighters hold this open house each year and Fire Preventaion week always includes October 9 as the week was started after the great Chicago fire of 1871.
